Ontario fishing on Rainy Lake is truly an avid fisherman's outdoor adventure. All of our guiding on Rainy Lake is done out of our 21 foot Triton, with all the electronics you need and 225 evinrude so we can get anywhere quick. Our other guide boat is a 21 foot Princecraft with a 90 hp yamaha tiller. Either boat can get to the fishing quickly and comfortably. Our base camp is located minutes from the best fishing, so long trips are rarely done. We can pick you up anywhere on the lake as well. fly fishing trips in CanadaThe structure of the north arm of Rainy Lake is ideal for smallie and northern fishing. There are hundreds of island with baseball to basketball sized boulder shoals and reefs coming off of them. Large areas of cabbage and pencil weed along side these shoals and reefs create unbeatable habitat. Crayfish, bait fish of all kinds, and especially smelts are the main forage. Northwest bay itself has a great walleye fishery. Most of the walleyes can be caught minutes from camp.

Spring fishing in May and early June is done off of any point or reef with some sandier areas in behind. Crappies can be caught in the shallow weedier bays. During the summer months, the fish are found in many areas of the lake. Some school up and chase the smelts in the deep water's away from the structure. Other's can be found in the huge cabbage beds in shallower water. Depending on the weather of the day and evening, top water bites are awesome. Windier days weightless plastics or weighted tubes or grubs can be thrown towards the points or banks or you can troll some live bait for some walleye. Fall fishing on Rainy Lake, probably the best of the year, is done on all kinds of structure. This is when Rainy Lake fishing really begins to shine. The smallmouth school up in the hundreds. This is also the time of year when you really know what "fish eating smelts" is all about. The belly's on the fish are unbelievable. The larger northerns move up from the depth and are cruiseing the shorelines. The crappies are hanging out in larger schools in deep water and the walleye can be found along the many shorelines. If you are looking for a short trip or a longer stay, we can work out something for you. Just give us a call and we will work something out. If we are booked, we can help you find one of the other guides on the lake. We want your stay on Rainy Lake, to be a great Northern Ontario fishing Adventure.
